BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are injectable neuromodulators that can be used to soften lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. By temporarily relaxing targeted muscles, these nonsurgical injectables smooth out the skin while preserving a natural, expressive appearance. Most often used to improve frown lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles caused by other repetitive facial expressions, these treatments offer a quick and easy way to rejuvenate and refresh the face.

Who Is a Candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®?

How BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® Work
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to select small muscles in the face. This prevents the affected muscles from contracting strongly and causes them to relax. As a result, the overlying skin becomes smoother, and dynamic lines appear softer or fade from visibility. Treatment is highly targeted and can be used to address specific muscles without affecting natural muscle movement in untreated areas. After a few months, the product naturally dissipates, at which time additional treatments may be recommended to preserve results.
Treatment Options
While quite similar, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® function in slightly different ways. Your treatment will be tailored to your goals and facial anatomy.
- BOTOX® Cosmetic: BOTOX® Cosmetic is more concentrated and precise, so it is often used for smaller, more targeted areas like crow’s feet wrinkles. Results may take up to a week to appear.
- Dysport®: Dysport® tends to disperse more and is a helpful option for broader treatment areas like forehead lines. Results can appear in as little as 2 to 3 days.
- Complementary Treatments: When desired, either of these treatments may be paired with fillers, HydraFacial MD, laser skin treatments, or other procedures as part of a broader rejuvenation plan. We’ll help you understand when combining treatments may better support your goals.
Recovery and Results
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are performed in the office and typically take about 15 to 30 minutes. No anesthesia is generally required.
After your treatment:
- There is little to no downtime.
- Mild tenderness or swelling at the injection sites may occur temporarily.
- Most patients return to normal activities right away.
For both treatments, results typically last about 3 months, and injections may be repeated periodically to maintain results over time.
